opening of the installation “GATE” by Kassen
from 7 till 11pm
The The Hague-based musician/artist Kassen is much fascinated by interfaces and the effect they have on how instrumentalists deal with sound and -by extension- music. His “Gate” installation is a example of this. Unlike most electronic instruments it’s large enough to be played by multiple performers at the same time, inviting a intimate musical dialogue. On top of that “Gate” is meant to be placed as a entrance to musical concerts, enabling a more musical confrontation between the audience and a performing artist. Indeed “Gate” attempts to force that confrontation as it intentionally lacks a volume setting. To quote a modern thinker; “you should feel guilty if you’re just watching”. The electronic “guts” were developed by Rob Horijk.
