KANIPCHEN-FIT is vocalist Gloria and vocalist/guitarist Empee Holwerda-Williams.

(Gloria is known throughout the Tri-state area and beyond as a poet and visual artist, while Empee is also a member of the Amsterdam based music group SOLBAKKEN, who are best known in the US for their collaboration with San Diego’s Black Heart Procession, on the ’In The Fishtank’ series (released through Touch and Go.)

KANIPCHEN-FIT uses two voices, electric guitar, tambourine, maracas and minimal beats for optimum effect. The music is unsentimental, the lyrics try to stay ironic, taking on subjects as rain, late night braggadocio, love-starved strangers, heroic alcoholics and prison entertainment.

statement of lichun Tseng:

Exploring the essence of things,

developing the depth of experience and thought,

discovering the state of being:

passage, way, direction, process;

between, interval;

relationship, connection, association;

atmosphere, amorphous, vague, invisibility;

rhythm, floating, breathing;

slowness; spiritual treasure;

truth, intrinsic, reality;

entire, totality;

line, circle.

Dealing with the subtle relationship between

people and event;

time and space;

a and b—- existing and disappearing,

starting and ending,

having and non-having,

moving and still,

light and dark,

exterior and interior,

answer and question,

here and there.

Showing what underlies the situation, a sense of atmosphere in the connection between self and others, the sensitivity of one’s life experience,

reflecting on the quality of being.

What is the essence?

Is the essence invariable or impermanent?

What does time mean in the passage of the changing process?

Is real really real?

What can observing and looking be?

What can relationship, subtlety, and slowness reflect?

If we “stay” in a situation without naming or thinking the things we see, what can we feel and experience?
