Dystopia from California need no introduction. Backstabber ep was released in 1997 on Life is Abuse, Misanthropic and Common Cause Records and it consists of three tracks of downtuned heavy crusty sludge in the vein of Amebix meets Neurosis. This is out of print, a foldout sleeve was included and Life is Abuse included these three tracks in the The Aftermath cd re-release of the similar named vinyl. According to L.i.A. web site, Bruce Dickinson ripped off the chorus of "Backstabber" on his "Chemical Wedding" lp. Very nice,very nice...

Wrikken is a collaboration between Dutchmen Joris van Perlo and Ivo Bol. Both having played in several punk and new age-bands, both being bored with the genres, both discovering the possibilities of electronic processing... The combintion of electronics and their former acoustic instruments, or rather the electronic re-interpretation of those instruments, is like a red-line through their work. Although not recognisable as such, the sound of Wrikken is based on sampling and distillating their acoustic recordings, which are manipulated over and over. One could say Wrikken sample the behaviour over time of their instruments, rather than the sound of them. The result is a varied mix in sound and atmosphere. Gradually becoming more known in the small Dutch experimental electronic music scene, this is their debut release, hopefully giving them more exposure outside of the lowlands as well.

After a download/cd release on Narrominded, comes this new 7". Boutros Bubba is a rock band, consisting of musicians from bands such as Gone Bald, Petrified Host, Morbide Eenheid, SGP and Crowd Surfers Must Die. A good deal of 2007 was spent on the road, playing all around western Europe, refining their sound. Musically and textually absurd, Boutros Bubba give a sample of their very best in the two tracks on this new 7". The first full length album from Boutros Bubba is now nearing completion is expected later in 2008.

Narrominded presents an extremely limited (50 handmade copies worldwide) first solo outing from musical wunderkind Spoelstra, guitar player and vocalist in Boutros Bubba. This is a release in co-operation with the brand new Vloeken Tegen Bont imprint.
This is the country album. For this occasion Spoelstra strictly limited himself to the sounds of a guitar, a drum kit, a sampler and some effect pedals. This EP contains six songs, desperately trying to bring together slide guitar driven countrylicks, hectic rock, bleeping electrosounds, robotic atmospheres and the occasional sad melody here and there. Just to show that there is also a sensitive side behind all this.
To prevent any discussion about wether or not this is indeed a country album, all the songs are about souvereignty issues in the broadest sense.

The first installment in the split lp series consist of music by the Dutch duo Living Ornaments and the American artist Accelera Deck. Each side of the record contains a complete work clocking in at about twenty minutes. Side A is Ribbels bij Living Ornaments. This piece features mostly piano and guitar music that have been treated with electronics to a fresh result. Emotional, tonal, spherical and technical elements blend in these eleven tracks that show parallels with the music of Christian Fennesz, Tim Hecker, Keith Fullerton Whitman and Boards of Canada. Side B is a buzzing, dark and moody piece of music by Accelera Deck entitled Spangle. In four tracks Accelera Deck explores the dark depths of guitarnoise and eventually ends up in warm acoustic glitch-folk. Accelera Deck is Chris Jeely from Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Chris played and recorded in numerous rock bands. Throughout his time recording Chris has dabbled in releasing music under a variety of names like September Plateau and Your Favorite Horse and recorded for esteemed labels such as Morr, Neo Ouija and 555 Recordings.

'les trucs like to construct things and collect stuff. Both of them just bought some analo synths/drum- computer/strangemicrophone-stuff. They already tried out a few electronic songs in their own livingrooms.  To concquer the distance between the two livingrooms les trucs finish eight songs by sending tracks via internet and after a few days in the rehearsal room, the idea of "les trucs" is realized. four bags of instruments and many cables, pressuring weird beats, noise contra catchy melodies and screaming out the boredom of tramways and plastic flowers by male and female voices is the conclusion.'

FUTURE ISLANDS are a new-wave dance band from North Carolina, now residing in the fertile "music capital of awesome", Baltimore. Through the eyes of a dream, integrally composed and performed by Miguel Negrão, was recorded for two years in improvised studios around Portugal. The album could be divided in two groups: 6 tracks of shoegazed Rock with multiple layers of distorted and delay filled guitars until they become a continuous wall of sound breathing the rythmn of the bass and drums. The other 5 tracks are mostly improvised using almost unreckognisible guitar and bass sounds processed by computer (max/msp).I spite of this Rock/Drone duality all tracks come together to set the mood of this album.

The Rock tracks show influeces of the more experimental shoegazing of My Bloody Valentine and the intensity of Sonic Youth. The Drone tracks are similar in spirit to the minimalist works of La Monte young or Charlemagne Palestine with continuous sound forming simple harmonies. The use of Just Intonation contributes to a feeling of calmness and peace but at other times creates a deeply troubling mood.

Pistol Disco is a noise duo from Gothenburg in Sweden. The music is hard, brutal and primal, but even if the level of noise sometimes is comparable to noise extremists like Merzbow it never becomes harsh. Melodies and song structure is always visible beneath all layers of electro-industrial dissonance. Using Suicides minimal and spooky approach as a starting point, Pistol Disco creates tracks ranging from splatter-intensive drum’n’noise dance beats through pumping epic electro-kraut to dreamy lo-fi electronica. But the result is not retro in any aspect; Pistol Disco has its own unique vision of how music, inspired of the past - intended for the future, should sound like.

All music is created live using keyboards, electronic drum-pads, effects, transistor radio unit, mixing consoles and other primitive electronic instruments and devices. This makes improvisation becoming an important part in the process of creating the music, both onstage and in the studio.

Drippy Bone Books is a publishing project run by artists Kristy Foom, Mario Zoots, and Keenan Marshall Kellar out of Amsterdam, Denver and Los Angeles. We release underground art and comic books, and promote the distribution of art multiples. The name Drippy Bone Books was inspired by the comic Oops Goops drawn by David Magdelano and Brian Bamps of Los Angeles. Editions are curated by a single person and worked on by the group. We print on copy machines and assemble by hand. A typical edition is under 50 copies, sometimes as few as 10. Distribution relies heavily on a strong network of underground ‘dealers’. Some books such as Sonic Bonk and Bronze Legs, have been printed in unique editions since 2007 without edition numbers, under a single title, as an ongoing curatorial project. We like the wit and beauty of theft, reproduction, and the weird, and so we print a lot of appropriation and weirdo illustration. But it’s the dawn of 2010, and we’re tapping into new contemporary feelings so upcoming publications will include landscape photography and sculptural projects. There is always endless possibility in the future.

Gary War’s music is on the one hand incredibly catchy, on the other very confusing. The listeners ears need to dig through layers of spacy tape manipulations and fuzzy sound effects, analogue synths and watery vocals (that sound like they have been recorded in ancient sewers beneath a city in a far away galaxy), in order to hear the catchy bass hooks, brilliant melodies and psychedelic pop song structures. Horribles Parade is the new full length from Gary War. This is the second album and the followup to last years’ New Raytheonport LP on SHDWPLY Records. The album expands on the more stripped down sound of his Sacred Bones “Zontag” single, plying layers of warm fuzz and feedback on top of psychedelic pop song structures.

Knalpot's debut EP is the long awaited studio rendition of the ferocious music Gerri Jäger and Raphael Vanoli have been making for the past two years as Knalpot. 'Serious Outtakes' comes as a selection of six tracks presenting the duo's most acclaimed and celebrated material so far, capturing the sound of a new perspective on anything from jazz to punk and electro to funk. Styles really are not applicable here, Knalpot's attitude and discipline carry anything they create or improvise.
